ALL ABILITIES PLAYGROUND

All Abilities Playground Update: At the council meeting last night I moved a motion for council to spend $100,000 this financial year for consultation, detailed design and procurement of the inclusive playground at Warragamba, with construction programmed to begin next financial year. This was supported unanimously by the other councillors.

For the Warragamba/Silverdale community it provides certainty that after years of false starts this project is finally going to happen and that instead of continuing to lose tourism infrastructure we are going to be getting back something that has been promised to the Warragamba/Silverdale community since the old playground was ripped up by the Water Board/SCA in the late nineties as part of construction of the auxiliary spillway on the dam.

This project is worth $1.2 million and is possible thanks to the generous support of the Touched by Olivia Foundation and our federal member Angus Taylor MP, who are helping council to fund the project. Special mention also needs to go to Sandra Harlor who has pushed for this project for a number of years.

I consider this a massive win not only for the Warragamba/Silverdale area but the shire as a whole as it will provide us with an amazing regional facility for children of all abilities and is sure to help attract tourists to our beautiful shire.

RV Friendly Site (Short Stay) at Warragamba Recreation Reserve
Just a quick status update on this project. Work is progressing well to get the site happening. We have just put in a development application to allow for the area in the picnic grounds near the boomerang shed to be used and that should be the last big hurdle before we are able to get to work on getting the actual camping area up and running

Blaxlands Crossing

Wollondilly Shire Council would like to advise of a delay in awarding the contract for the Blaxland Crossing Bridge Bearing Replacement Project. The delay to awarding the contract is approximately 1 month.

This is because Council are continuing to clarify some technical details and seek approval from key stakeholders involved in the project. There are a number of key stakeholders that have infrastructure running through the bridge. We require these stakeholders to provide approval of the works before we can commit to a contract. This has been a lengthy process and is nearing completion.

We have recently undertaken a full structural assessment of the bridge and confirmed that the current permit system with loading and speed restrictions remains suitable. Permits for vehicles over 38T up to 55T are continuing to be issued with an expiry of 3 months (end of July 2017). The permit system will then be reviewed with respect to progress of the remedial works and structural condition of the bridge.

More information can be found on Council’s website under current infrastructure projects.
